What is the Zantac Cancer Lawsuit?
If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with stomach or bladder cancer, and have taken the popular medicine Zantac (or a general version of it, you should speak with a Zantac cancer lawyer.
Sandoz Inc., the maker of Ranitidine Hydrochloride (150 mg and 300 mg) capsules has voluntarily issued a recall after confirming the generic capsules contained an “unexpected impurity, N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA)”. NDMA is known to be a human carcinogen and can cause cancer.
On September 13, 2019, the U.S. FDA issued an advisory and warned the general public about taking Zantac and the generic version of Zantac. Their advisory came after a chemical contamination of the popular heartburn medication was announced. The Food and Drug Administration explained in their release that trace amounts of NDMA were found in ranitidine.
At this time, one company has ceased all distribution of its generic version. A pharmacy located in Connecticut, where the contamination was initially discovered, is also asking the FDA to issue a full recall. Until the FDA recalls the products, stores and pharmacies are continuing to keep the product on their shelves.
Officials from the FDA has said at this time people can take Zantac and other medications that contain ranitidine. However, anyone with a prescription version should consult their doctor at the earliest convenience.

The FDA has also asked those who are taking the over the counter version to look for an alternative version or make alterations in one’s lifestyle that could alleviate the symptoms of gastrointestinal conditions.
Are There Any Zantac Cancer Lawsuits?
On the day the FDA made its announcement regarding Zantac, a lawsuit was filed in California against the drugmaker Sanofi, a manufacturer based in India. A second lawsuit was filed in Florida by a man who developed breast cancer (a rare disease in men) after taking the medication for a period of at least nine years.
Both plaintiffs say the drugmakers of Zantac should have known about the possibility, or potential, of contamination and should have advised the medical community about the possible dangers. This is based upon various studies and research published over the last decade or so which found when water and ranitidine come into contact with one another, it can result in a chemical reaction that turns into NDMA. Although the research was very much available to the public, and drug makers, no warnings were made to doctors or users.
